FATHER LOUIS SCURTI RECEIVES TAU KAPPA EPSILON “LEADER OF THE WAY” AWARD On Saturday November 3, 2007 the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at William Paterson University, Wayne NJ, commemorated it’s 40th year on campus. The “Red Carnation Ball” is an annual event that is held by the Fraternity. This year’s event commemorated fifty-eight years as a fraternity, on campus (originally called DOE, Delta Omega Epsilon) and thirty six years as TKE (Tau Kappa Epsilon), part of the National Fraternity (of which President Ronald Reagan was a member). The “RCB” was held at the newly renovated William Paterson University Student Center Commons, as one of the first events held in the new facility. Many of the William Paterson University TKE alumni attended and were part of the audio-visual presentations that spanned the decades. Since 1989 Father Lou Scurti has been Advisor of the local chapter, “Nu Omega”, of TKE. Past Presidents and members of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Alumni Advisory Board presented awards for various positions and accomplishments of the fraternity. “Father Lou” as he is called, was presented with the highest award of the fraternity, “The Hegemon” or “Leader of the Way” award in commemoration of his leadership and advisement of the fraternity. Brian Sweeny, a member of the Advisory Board said, as he presented the Award: “Father Lou has been our guide, advisor and counselor in so many ways and for so many brothers through the years; the award recognizes his devotion to the ideals of TKE, ‘Love, Charity and Esteem”. “We have challenged him and often stressed him out” Brian continued, “but he never gave up on us!” he concluded, and for this he is a brother for life!” Fr. Lou was made a TKE fraternity brother in 1990. Father Lou Scurti is coordinator of Catholic Campus Ministry, for the Diocese of Paterson, Campus Minister at William Paterson University and chaplain of the Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Chapel, Haledon. He is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and an accomplished artist. Gary Marks Tau Kappa Epsilon marksg@wpunj.edu |
